US National and Local/State Partners in the Global Stop TB Partnership

WHAT IS THE GLOBAL STOP TB PARTNERSHIP?

The Stop TB Partnership (Stop TB Partnership | Home Page) is leading the way to a world without tuberculosis (TB), a disease that is curable but still kills three people every minute. Founded in 2001, the Partnership's mission is to serve every person who is vulnerable to TB and ensure that high-quality treatment is available to all who need it. Together our nearly 1000 partners are a collective force that is transforming the fight against TB in more than 100 countries. They include international and technical organizations, government programs, research and funding agencies, foundations, NGOs, civil society and community groups and the private sector. The secretariat is hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland and is governed by a coordinating board that sets strategic direction for the global fight against TB.

WHAT IS A NATIONAL STOP TB PARTNERSHIP?

A national Stop TB partnership within the global partnership, is a voluntary alliance between local organizations drawn from the public, civil society and private/business sectors who commit to working collaboratively towards TB prevention, diagnosis, care and control, in which all partners contribute from their core competencies, share risks and responsibilities and benefit by achieving their own goals, and the overall goal. Each national Stop TB partnership works in close collaboration with their national TB control program (NTP) with the aims of strengthening TB prevention, care and control.  Achieving these individual country goals will contribute towards achieving the targets of the Global Plan to Stop TB.

WHAT IS THE FOCUS OF THE STOP TB USA NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP?

The Stop TB USA Partnership is a coalition of individuals and organizations working toward the elimination of TB in the US.  The Partnership’s vision is to assist in the elimination of TB as a public health problem in the US through public health, scientific and educational activities, and the mission is to strengthen TB prevention, care and control in the US.

WHAT IS THE FOCUS AND ROLE OF LOCAL AND STATE PARTNERS IN THE STOP TB USA NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP?

Local and State Partners provide opportunities to expand the membership and reach of the National Partnership in the TB elimination effort. Local and state partners also provide a unique perspective on the efforts for TB control and elimination and play a key role in educating and engaging individuals, organizations and policy makers at the local and state level.
